Artist: Ioana Ursa

Beginning with Giorgione’s work entitled La Tempesta /The Tempest (around 1508, the Gallery dell’Accademia collection in Venice), referring, as a cultural quote, to the work of the same title by William Shakespeare, dated 1610-11, and leading to the most recent natural disasters in Japan (Fukushima – 2011); this is how Ioana Ursa’ universe, ‘clothed’ in lace and velvet, smelling of naphthalene and Marina de Bourbon perfume, can be referentially and geographically situated. We are talking about a parallel world, with a generous view towards the sky, mountains and sea, where strange characters, often subversive, live. Ioana Ursa’s 66 oil paintings tell a hallucinatory and stunning tale, like the dance of clouds in the midst of a tempest. Ioana Ursa (born 1984, Bucharest) is a painter, sketcher and book illustrator. She is a post-graduate at UNAB and university preparatory at UNAB’s Graphics Department.
