The Rhyton

The piece made of clay worked at the wheel was found in the sacred area of the Getic Dava (settlement) Piscul Crasani (Balaciu com., Crăsanii de Jos village, Ialomița County) in 1986 and dates back to 1st Century BC. The horn-shaped Rhyton decorated with a horse head was used in rituals practiced by the Getae in that period. This object represents an outstanding specimen with a large impact on the archaeological community, being the flagship of the series finds from the Piscul Crăsani (solar hearth, various vessels for libations, female anthropomorphic statuettes, knucklebone lamb and mutton amulets, magic kits). All of these prove the level of civilization reached by the population of the Dava. The Rhyton was the highlight of several exhibitions organized in Romania and in famous international museums.
