Lindenfeld – a recovered history
Lindenfeld – a recovered history
Despre eveniment
36 families from Klattau area, the Bohemian Forest, were settled in 1828 in Banatul de Munte, Cracul Crovului area, thus establishing the Lindenfeld village, translated as “the place with linden trees”. In Banat they are called “pemi” (Deutschböhmen). A son of the village, Franz Berger joined the German Army in 1942, reaching the Don elbow in Russia. The Axis army was pushed to France and Franz Berger was taken prisoner. After the war he returned to Lindenfeld in 1945. In 1946 he was deported to Siberia until 1955, where he founded a new family. After his wife’s death he returned to Lindenfeld, but in 1978 immigrated to Germany without being able to imagine he will ever return to his native village. After the Romanian Revolution in 1989, Franz Berger returns every year to live for 6 months in his native home in Lindenfeld, helping the others to rediscover Lindenfeld’s history through his stories and memories.
