VISUAL.KONTAKT.LABORATORY (Str. Republicii nr. 47) Review ”Un strop de copilăreli” de Mirela Constantin The project entitled ”A spot of childish whatnots” appears as a holistic vision upon the post-communist phenomenon which is still being felt in several Eastern European countries. Péter Esterházy’s book, A little Hungarian pornography (1984) draws a metaphor of the project’s starting point. His work depicts an obscene society being infested by the system, using a post-modern vision, filled with irony and humour. ”A spot of childish whatnots” has appeared out of the necessity to creatively synthesise and propagate structures which belong to the specific history of a collective Eastern European mentality. Both the Hungarian and Romanian society coexist and they are moreover ideologically connected to a communist past, having terror in common, along with fear and everything that can be contained by the concept of pornography. The latter includes rape, enquiry, delation or political perversity being implemented even onto interpersonal relationships. The children’s book entitled “A spot of childish whatnots” follows the narrative track of Péter Esterházy’s book, being illustrated and presented both in the Romanian and Hungarian language. It problematises the idea of pornographic censorship carrying a double perspective, one belonging to the child and the other to the adult. Thus, the short stories take it all around, focusing on both the childish language and the tendentious contents of the narration. The presentation of the book took place on May 8 2013, in a much vaster exhibitional ensemble, which meant creating an installation that restores the mechanisms of propaganda which had been used in the socialist era. ”A spot of childish whatnots” has the status of a book release and the 80s shape of a museum exhibition. We are looking at an event destroying the communist ideological pedestal integrating it into a commemorative celebration along with objects that have become as useful as toys and as memorable as fables. The communist celebration is a fairytale, whereas pornography transcends the concept and time, thus becoming perceptible reality nowadays. In other words, the forementioned element turns up within children’s reach and minds.

VISUAL KONTAKT GALLERY (Str. Albacului nr. 54) Preview ”Electric Haiku”,  Raluca Avrămuț Raluca Avrămuț’s project comprises a painting installation in which the compositional space appears in plastic sytheses, as compared to the minimalist Japanese poems. The unconventional support and the original painting technique are to be found as definitory elements within a plastic rendering of the haiku. The idea of an ”electric haiku” does not represent a label; it is rather connected to that which is exploitable by the beholder, from a literary, visual or philosophical point of view. This process is close to a newly created atmosphere, being an analogue to the poem about nature, love or the act of playing. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Olimpia Bera and the event will take place at 7 p.m. on May 22, at the headquarters of the Visual Kontakt art gallery, in 54, Albacului street Oradea. (strada Albacului nr.54, Oradea).
