Bazaar. Songs from the nineteenth century (Trei Parale Group) Place: The lake stage, 19.00 – 20.15 Trei parale groups young city people passionate about the old types of music specific to the Romanian space. The group benefits from detailed documentation in the field of traditional musical culture; Florin Iordan, ethnomusicologist, plays an important role in this respect. In putting together the repertory or in outlining the interpretative style, the members use ways of knowledge such as expeditions through villages and work with various old musicians, listening to old field recordings made by Constantin Brăiloiu or Bela Bartok, documentation from various volumes of music folklore, studying some transcriptions from the nineteenth century (A. Pann, G. Ucenescu, D. Vulpian etc.). The group uses old instruments that have almost completely disappeared from the traditional environment and which are totally neglected by the contemporary urban world: various flutes, kobsa, vielle, Jew’s harp, various percussion instruments. Members of the band: Florin Iordan: kobsa, flutes, bagpipe, drum, zither; Daniel-Mircea Pop: voice, flutes, percussion; Beatrice Iordan: kobsa; George Turliu: voice, percussion; Collaborators: Mihai Balabaş: violin; Dinu-Traian Petrescu: percussion; George Ştefan Kudor-Ghiţescu: contrabass, percussion. DOMINO Concert Place: The lake stage, 21.00 – 22.00 Defined ever since their beginning as one of the most daring musical projects in Sibiu from the last period, DOMINO have started their artistic path in January 2013 in Vienna, representing Romania at the International Tourism Fair. After their first concert, the band sang on several festivals stages from the country: Padina Fest, Peninsula, Transylvania International Film Festival, Huet.Urban, Colors of Cluj and others. DOMINO manages to be a unique band because of the mixture of instruments they use – dulcimer, drums and bass guitar, the stage performance and the way they manage to surprise their audience each time. Their music is alternative rock with very many influences, especially from the Romanian folklore, which makes their style even harder to define. The band is made up by Romulus Cipariu – dulcimer, voice; Sebastian Marcovici – bass guitar, voice; and Valentin Oancea – drums. Facebook DOMINO Referinţe video

Folk Astronomy Workshop Place: Etno Tehno Park, 21.00 – 23.00 One of the attraction points of the European Night of the Museums Programs will be the Folk Astronomy Workshop taking place within the Ethno Techno Park, coordinated by professor Ania Ţiţei. The position and features of the planets from the Solar System will be explained to the visitors with the support of a presentation. Between 22.00- 23.00 there will be stars observation sessions, using the museum’s telescope. Astronomy is one of the most ancient of the fundamental sciences that offer important data about the Universe: the fact that it is formed by billions of galaxies and that it was probably formed with approximately 13 billions of years ago. One hundred years ago the sky used to be studied with the help of the optical telescope and the photographic plates, while today the Universe is observed through infrared and gamma-rays.

The temporary exhibition LVMEN EST OMEN  expresses the richness and evolution of the lighting on the five continents, through a selection of photographs, old documents and over 300 items, from the Antiquity until the advent of electricity. The lamps, the lanterns and the chandeliers presented here find their global dimension, comprising the practical function, the aesthetical and sometimes even the playful dimension. Organized on four sections, the exhibition helps discover the role of the light in the everyday life, in the religious life, professional and even festive one, opening the path to a profound reflection on the symbolic values, but also on the social impact and artificial lighting. The little known richness of the collection of lighting items kept in Romania, from the Dacian era until the modern times, is completed with an intercontinental contribution by items from the collections of the ASTRA Museum and the Romanian Peasant’s Museum. The multimedia interactivity of the exhibition became possible due to Swiss Web Academy (Sibiu). With the help of a tablet or smart phone, the public can have access to filmed sequences illustrating, through images achieved by operator Claudiu Moisescu, the functioning of the most representative lighting objects and installations. Guided tour: 23.00
