Banat Village Museum of Timisoara is about the single Village Museum from the west of the country: Banat is the baroque of the Romanian ethnography, said Lucian Blaga. In those times, every household would stand out through its authentic traditional objects: fabrics and embroideries, pots, plates, clay jugs, knitted objects and others. The fame of each and every inhabitant laid in the knitted rustic clothing specifically adorned. The living proof of the fact that the poet`s opinion was well founded is the collection of the Banat Peasant’s Museum of Timisoara. The core of the Museum is the Village Civic Centre consisting of a Town Hall, a school, the “National House” and the inn. The central building was the wooden church. It was built in 1746 at Remetea Lunca, in 1807 it was moved in the nearby village called Topla and in 1987 it was brought at the museum. Presently, it is the oldest church in Timisoara.
Each and every household from the Museum`s collection has its own little story, and if you want to discover it you only have to respond to our challenge. We invite you to travel back in time, thus going through a couple of centuries and discovering the complex lifestyle from Banat by yourselves or with our help. This lifestyle varies from some points of view such as language, ethnicity or traditions.
