The Teleki-Bolyai Library awaits you with a 2 days long program during the Night of Museums. Friday 16 May at 19:00 hours we are opening the first temporary exhibition of the year 2014, entitled Ars Culinaria. The topic of the exhibition is European and Transylvanian gastronomy, most of the material having been selected from the collections of our Library. Alongside 18th century engravings that present offerings and bacchanalia, that remind us of Roman and Greek times, the exhibition presents two 18th century editions of the only surviving Ancient cookbook and a 17th century manuscript, recently discovered in the Teleki Library and which is considered the oldest recipe from Transylvania. Moreover, a later edition of the first Transylvanian cookbook is also going to be on display, very popular at the time, as well as a manuscript copy of it, enriching this exhibition of German and French specialty books. Starting with 20:30 hours, the gastronomy enthusiasts can watch a movie dedicated to the art of gastronomy, Vatel (2000) starring Gerard Depardieu, the projection will be held in the Library courtyard.
Saturday evening (17 May) starts with a chamber concert held from 19:00 by the pupils of the local Art School, after the concert you are welcome to visit our exhibitions, opening hours: 20:00 - 02:00! The Teleki-Bolyai Library (Tg-Mureş, Romania) is one of the richest Transylvanian collections of past centuries’ book culture. Its well over 200,000 volumes (boasting a great number of rarities) are a comprehensive scientific database. Teleki also collected masterpieces of Aldo Manuzio, Giunta, Estienne, Plantin, Elzevir, Frobenius, Bodoni, Heltai Gáspár and Tótfalusi Kis Miklós, and placed great importance on acquiring the best editions of the Greek and Latin classics.
